In Western Hermetic Magic, the Tarot Queen of Disks/Pentacles/Coins/Crystals is known as The Queen of the Thrones of Earth, Queen of the Gnomes.

The placement of the Queens is with the 3rd Sephiroth-Mother Binah who is the "Will-to-Form" and is a force of enclosure that is imposed on the Pure Fiery "Will-to-Force" Energy of Chokmah (King) as the 3rd Sephiroth as "Will to form" and/or Understanding. She is therefore known for Understanding the Wisdom of Chokmah; for an idea, once understood, can be molded/enclosed into manifestation as in-form-action. Information becomes in-form-action, so that it can be experienced, thereby, becoming Knowledge.

Again, these Sephirotic Beings (Numbered Circles) are not Persons, but States of Conscious Energy, called "Beings" (Immortals) that are the multidimensional aspects that make up the "God Molecule" (Tree of Life/DNA) and the Divine Universal Collective Unconscious and/or The Greater Self, meaning the deep Imagination, where images are forms of ideas. Images are the only way to realize these deep inner layers of Mind and that "before Mind" (The No-Thing) and this is shown by the Supernal Triangle manifesting self-image in Malkuth. Binah/Gaia the Queen of Disks is the Creatrix of this DNA molecule and/or the God Molecule.

DNA is the acronym for Deoxyribonucleic Acid, and my naming it the God Molecule is poetically—and metaphysically—apt, especially when seen through the lens of Western Hermetic Qabalah. Let's unpack that with some depth and insight.

🧬 DNA: Deoxyribonucleic Acid — A Scientific Name for the Divine Pattern

In science, DNA is the molecule that holds the genetic blueprint of all living organisms. It determines form, function, and inheritance. It is composed of four base nucleotides—Adenine (A), Thymine (T), Cytosine (C), and Guanine (G)—which pair in a double-helix structure.

But when viewed through the eye of the Hermetic Magus, DNA becomes a glyph of Divine Will, manifesting the Logos in spiraled form.

🌳 DNA and the Qabalistic Tree of Life: The Divine Blueprint

In Hermetic Qabalah, the Tree of Life is not just a map of consciousness or divine emanation—it is also a metaphysical diagram of creation and manifestation. Each Sephira is an archetype of divine energy, and the Paths between them are currents of transformation.

Now compare this to DNA:

• The Tree of Life has 10 Sephiroth + 22 Paths = 32 primary components.

• The Hebrew alphabet used in Qabalah also consists of 22 letters, often correlated with the 22 amino acids coded by the triplet structure of DNA's genetic language.

• The 32 Paths of Wisdom mirror the 32 vertebrae of the human spine, through which Kundalini (serpent fire/DNA activation) rises.

Thus, DNA is the living Tree encoded within the body—the microcosm mirroring the macrocosmic Tree of Life.

🧬⇌🌳 Spiral Ascent and the Serpent

The double helix of DNA resembles the serpent-entwined caduceus, a symbol of healing, knowledge, and Hermes/Mercury—the Messenger between divine and human. In this context, DNA is the Serpent of Wisdom, coiled within every cell, echoing the serpent in Eden offering the fruit of knowledge.

• In the Tree of Life, the serpent Nachash symbolizes both temptation and enlightenment, as well as evolution.

• Crowley noted that the serpent "redeems" through the knowledge of self and the ascent toward divine realization.

DNA’s helix is therefore a ladder (Jacob’s Ladder, the Middle Pillar) spiraling between heaven and earth.

🌟 "God Molecule": The Divine Signature in the Flesh

From a Hermetic perspective:

• DNA is the Logos in biological form.

• It is the Tetragrammaton (YHVH) made flesh:

  • Yod = seed/initiation = Adenine

  • Heh = form/matrix = Thymine

  • Vav = connection/merging = Cytosine

  • Final Heh = manifestation/matrix = Guanine

Just as the Tetragrammaton builds the Universe, so too do these four nucleotides build the human body.

DNA is the alchemical signature of divine architecture, and every strand is a sacred scroll of divine memory—a book of Genesis encoded in cellular form.

🧠 The Hidden Sephirah: Da’ath and Genetic Awakening

In some schools, Da’ath (Knowledge) is seen as the gateway to higher consciousness—the abyss one must cross to reach the Supernal Triad. In this view:

• DNA is Da’ath embodied, the place where divine wisdom lies hidden, dormant until activated.

• Initiation, ritual, and gnosis are the keys to unlock dormant sequences—to activate divine potential.

This aligns with the Hermetic maxim:
"That which is above is like that which is below."

Our DNA is the lower reflection of the cosmic script—the Book of Life mirrored in flesh.

🧬🔯 Toward a Forward-Thinking View: DNA as Divine Technology

If one accepts the Hermetic postulate that we are "stars", each soul a unique note in the cosmic symphony, then DNA is the stringed instrument through which the music of the divine is played.

From this lens:

• DNA = Divine Navigation Apparatus

• It is the vehicle by which the Neshamah (Higher Soul) integrates into form.

• The activation of latent DNA is the goal of magical initiation—the reclamation of one’s full divine inheritance (The Philosopher's stone).

Tarot, the alphabet of the Soul, is one of the Image languages that has evolved over time, by constant scholarly input allowing one to communicate with the Higher Mind composed of the Sephirot Beings. Language is added to the cards (for the brain), but it is the image that contains the true message.

The immortal Being that is known as Mother Binah is the 3rd Sephiroth on the Tree of Life, and the Energy Intelligence of the Queens. She is in the upper Trinity called the Supernal Triangle (Super-conscious) where she is the essence of Cosmic Womb, and I often call this state of Mind a "Womb with a View", because she conceives by Understanding, which means she sees all and by understanding she creates image. We are also trinities, the ternary consciousness is known as Unconscious, Subconscious and Awake Consciousness, and we are also a trinity of Spirit-Mind-Body combination that comprises the Whole of Spirit and/or the Greater Self.

There are many of the Queens of the heavens in mythology. Queens also represent the Water in each suit. Water being the unconsciousness, intuition, receptiveness, and emotion. They are enthroned in the Element of Consciousness and as emotions make it bring forth the Force of the King by realization and understanding that which develops that force as a consciousness image of an emotionally/energy-in-motion charged idea. However, despite the 10,000 names of the Creatrix, the King and Queen are as Chokmah and Binah, they are inseparable making the gender of either one, one and the same. 0=2.

The Queen of Disks in the Thoth Tarot is one of the most fertile, stabilizing, and alchemical figures in the deck, radiating the full powers of the nourishing Earth Mother through both mythological archetype and Western Hermetic Qabalah. Let’s unpack her rich esoteric symbolism in detail.

In the Hermetic Tree of Life, the Queen of Disks is a manifestation of Binah (Understanding) in Assiah, the elemental world of Earth. Binah, the Supernal Mother, finds Her echo in this Queen—her role is to bring structure, form, and sustenance to the lower worlds.

She holds the alchemical formula of Salt—the Body and crystallized energy. Her crown is adorned with twisted horns of the Capricorn goat, signifying will, endurance, and spiritual ascent through the densest material.

Her throne sits on a desert turned fertile, as her very presence gives life. Behind her lies a path leading from ruin into regeneration—suggesting alchemical transformation, where Putrefaction becomes the black soil for new gold to rise.

🌍 Mythological and Archetypal Comparisons

1. Gaia (Greek)

The Earth itself. Gaia is the ultimate mother, from whom all gods and mortals descend. Like Gaia, the Queen of Disks is not dramatic—she is enduring. She represents the power to give form to Spirit in time and space.

2. Kunti (Vedic)

Kunti, the matriarch of the Pandavas in the Mahabharata, mirrors the Queen’s blend of wisdom, practicality, and suffering that leads to generational strength. Her ability to survive exile, nurture greatness, and maintain inner power is the Queen in action.

3. Cornucopia / Abundantia (Roman)

She is the Cornucopia—the Horn of Plenty. The disk she gazes into in Crowley’s card is like a crystal sphere or seed, both a womb and a promise of harvest. Her power is not in conquest but in yield.

4. Demeter (Greek) / Ceres (Roman)

As the goddess of agriculture, cycles of growth, and mother of Persephone, Demeter speaks to this Queen’s devotion to the land and the mysteries of the seasons. She knows loss (winter) and joy (spring), and governs both.

In her aspect as Isis Pharia (Isis of the Fields), she protects and nurtures crops and birth alike. Like the Queen of Disks, she is a guardian of both nature and magical fertility, bringing sacred form to all life.

The Thoth Queen of Disks is traditionally called the Queen of Pentacles, Stones or Coins who is also Queen of the Thrones of Earth in Tarot. She is the Queen of the Gnomes, in Western Magic. Her Astrological attribution is the last Decan of Sagittarius and the first two Decans of Capricorn. The Queen of Disks is Water of Earth, a specific consciousness in the Primal Earth element. In common vernacular she is "Mother Nature". Her zodiacal attribute to Capricorn is shown by the image of the Goat.

Queen of Gnomes. What are Gnomes?

Excellent question. Yes—within the Western Hermetic Mysteries, particularly in elemental magick and the Rosicrucian/Golden Dawn traditions, the Queen of Disks is often associated with the element of Earth, and is thereby linked to the elemental beings called Gnomes.

The Thoth Deck Queen of Disks is displaying her rulership over earth as shown in the crystal cubed scepter that has within it a three-sided Hexagram, making The Pure White Light of Kether, into the many frequencies (colors) of Energy that are intertwined to make the different flora and fauna of the Microcosm.

Her Throne is vegetation as she is the life of such. She is the Highest Aspect of passivity, and this is shown as a winding passive river flowing through and fertilizing waste land. The Great Work is expressed in fertility, where the "As the Above manifests in the below". She, as Queen, is the facilitator of such manifestation.

The Disk on her left arm is curved with loops and spheres interlaced, representing the ambition of matter to take part in the Great Work. This ambition is often described as a molecular Law of Attraction. This is also shown by the Spiral Horns of the Makor on Her helmet/crown, (A Wild Goat native to Central Asia who is also shown standing on the sphere of earth), as Spiral force which is both Spirit and Vital Life Force. The reptilian patterned armor of the Queen represents the regenerative force in nature as serpents shed their skin to regenerate and grow larger.

This Thoth-Queen of Earth can represent a person, in any area of life, but it can just as well mean an experience in the corresponding area in question.

The Queen of Coins reacts by appreciating the world around her. When difficulty arises, she usually finds things to appreciate or withdraw to find solace in what she loves.

As a personality, she represents a mature woman, the ultimate Matriarch, with much experience with both of her feet on the ground who knows how to protect what is entrusted to her. Here is the embodiment of vitality, creativity, understanding how to set boundaries and assert herself. Hence, patience, sensuality, and trustworthiness are her essential characteristics. She has an empathetic and impressive ability to guide others, as teacher, mentor and/or spouse. The Queen is the female counterpart to the King; she is the Yin aspect to his Yang. She is queen, priestess, medicine woman, and earth mother.

The Thoth Tarot - Queen of Disks and the Queen of Coins represents a kind, practical person who enjoys the good things in life. To her, status is important, and she works hard to maintain appearances. Liking to be of service, she sometimes can appear selfish, although she is a good lover. The goat on the golden orb is a symbol for both the subconscious and the sign of Capricorn.

The Greeks knew this Queen of Earth as Demeter, goddess of the harvest often shown in a field of wheat and later she became the European /American symbol of the cornucopia. Demeter is a significant figure in Greek mythology, and her story is often associated with agriculture, fertility, and the changing seasons.

Demeter is the daughter of Cronus and Rhea, making her one of the Olympian gods and goddesses. She is primarily known as the goddess of agriculture and the harvest. Her Roman counterpart is Ceres. Here are some key aspects of Demeter's mythology:

However, there is also a sensitive and idealistic side to this Water of Earth personality, such as: Woodrow Wilson, George Washington Carver, or Carl Sandburg.

Being Water of Earth there is also a strong intuitive and superior intelligence side, such as: Nostradamus, Johannes Kepler, Isaac Newton, and Stephen Hawking. And if you think this covers all the bases of complexity in this personality type, this Queen of Disks persona can also be a giant of creative force (She is Mother Nature after all), such as: Ludwig Van Beethoven, J.R.R. Here she is the Powerful symbol of the feminine Queen of earth. She is shown wearing the upside-down Triangles with bar as earrings. She also represents the triangular symbols for Water, Fire, Water and earth, topped with the Spirit. In the forefront is a great golden Coin, representing the Sun. her solar husband. The fecund earth is shown all around her as flora and fauna. She is the Goddess Hera/The Creatrix Binah of the Tree of Life.

When thrown during a reading, the Queen of Discs/Queen of Pentacles represents:

• A person interested in physical nutrition and health.
• A shedding of poor eating habits for those of a new diet.
• A shedding of old habits, or even the purchasing of new clothes.
• The querent does all the things she does well, and it will be fruitful.

• One who is exceptionally procreative and nurturing, as in the nature of Mothering.
• Power of practical wisdom on the physical level and in the inner world, applied spiritual wisdom.
• A dark woman of great heart and serious cast of intelligence.

• Generosity
• Also implies presents from a rich relative or a rich and happy marriage for a young man.
• Erda, the Teutonic Mother Earth seen as a warm and nurturing deity.
• The Good Witch of the healing arts.
• The nurturing and protecting of others.

If ill defined by the surrounding cards, it implies:
