Thoth- 4 of Swords-Truce
The Lord of rest from strife.
Chesed, the 4th Sephiroth-Mercy, is the Universal Architect, thus the 4's suggest perfection, realization, completion and fixing a matter to a rock solid stability. In the 4 of Swords, this stability is a form of Truce, where equal tension, makes a stability of mental powers. However, these are weapons of war, therefore, this is a Truce under the threat of Violence and/or both parties are worn out by fighting and take time out to regroup their offense.
The 4 of Swords represents Chesed in Yetzirah, influencing the mental formative -astral world.
As you may know, mental creation happens in the fluid light of the formative Astral (mental) World before the manifestation is solidified in the Material World. Now you may not be able to clearly see that you are not a body born in the 1% world of matter, but an owner of one as a psyche and/ or soul. You really are a Yod (Fiery hand of God) in the Universal Collective Unconscious, so your Real body, is the Tree of Life, made of aspects of evolved Solar light (Fire-Water-Air-Earth-and Energy. The human body is the incarnation for sensual purposes of experience and resides within the solar corona (Aura) of the Invisible you. That Invisible you (99% of you) is as Jupiter, and in this card, Jupiter is in Libra. Thus the normal destructive Swords, are put to a temporary rest in the munificent, benevolent and loving nature of Jupiter.
The Rose is restored and Consciousness is settled, and a rest from strife is implied by the Four of Swords. Jupiter in Libra radiates compassion and sensitivity showing the Mercy that is Chesed.
Here Jupiter claims authority in the intellectual world. Arguing for convention, Jupiter restores mental balance after the chaos of arbitrary thought.
In the 4 of Swords card, the hilts of the Swords, are formed into the corners of the St, Andrew's Cross, suggesting the rigidity and fixation implied in the 4. The Rose of 49 petals, in which the Swords are sheathed, according to Crowley, suggests social harmony.
Hence this is a Truce that is weak, for there is a suggestion of compromise. As does Crowley, I find this compromise to be a less than positive factor. For it is an act of an indolent mind, that would rather be pusillanimous and compromise for social peace rather than work out the thought through the promised struggle. However, it may be to keep the peace; but peace at any cost, is not always preferable. To reject Will and Self-Truth, to avoid violence, is an act of a souless slave.
Tarot Illuminati-4 of Swords
The oracle of the fertile mind.
Again we have the art work of the Tarot Illuminati-4 of Swords, depict the traditional image for this card; an image one finds on the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, although far more beautiful and extravagant. The Stain glass window of the Madonna, with her hand over her heart, is not only beautifully done, it also suggests her loving part in this Truce as the golden knight prays for peace. This is implied because of the Swords hung and the one laid down and the tired but living Knight's prayer position of his hands. The Rider-Waite-Smith and other traditional Tarot Cards suggest a sarcophagus, of a dead knight, which doesn't carry the message of Truce, but rather of defeat. The Author supports this theory of a tired knight by beginning her explanation of this card's emotional message as: "Oh my weary, worn, truth seeker, don't you tire of your mind wandering like an ascetic, weeping and feeling the pains of realization?" {Rider-Wait-Smith: 4 of Swords]
Both the Thoth and Tarot Illuminati card, suggest the image of conformity and compromise that characterizes a culture that would rather surrender blindly to authority than to face the challenges of liberty. One must never compromise their Soul/heart and at all times be true to Self. To do otherwise is to be but a shadow of yourself and live the life of someone who doesn't exist.
When the four of Swords -Truce, is thrown during a reading:
- There is mental understanding of a matter, or a relationship coming to full resolution on four levels of mental awareness: The Rational, The Emotional of the Unconscious, The Spiritual, and the Subconscious of the Physical.
- Implications of problems that should not be ignored; listen to the inner self and answers will be restored.
- A holding pattern after mastering a difficult mental situation.
- Retreat or withdrawal necessary to heal or hide, by creating a protected mental space.
- Here insight can be generated by seclusion.
- A moment of logic and discriminating intelligence of integrity and planning.
- Stillness and peace of mind.
- Rest and recuperation.
- Seeking answers in meditation and sleep.
If ill defined by the surrounding cards:
- A bout of illness in order to recuperate. A Forced retreat.
- Isolation.
- Convalescence.
