Thoth- 4 of cups-Luxury
From the Golden Dawn Texts:
“In Chokmah is the Radix of blue and thence is there a blue color pure and primitive, and glistening, with a spiritual Light which is reflected into Chesed. And the Sphere of its Operation is called Zedekiah or Justice and it fashionith the images of material things, bestowing peace and mercy: and it ruleth the sphere of the action of the planet Jupiter. And all is the title of a God strong and mighty, ruling in Glory, Magnificence and Grace. And the Archangel of Chesed is Tsadkiel, the Prince of Mercy and Beneficence, and the Name of the order of Angels is Chasmalim, Brilliant Ones, who are also called the Order of Dominions. The Sephira Chesed is also called Gedulah or Magnificent and Glory."
With such flowery words of ritual adoration, it is often difficult to realize that this luxury is Part of your Inner inheritance as a Divine Child. However, inside of you, which is infinitely deep, you are compose of these 10 Sephirotic "states of energy conscious". Therefore, the value of inner self meditation. introspection and skrying of the tarot cards should be apparent to one who is interested.
THE 4 OF CUPS-Luxury, in the Thoth Deck is also called both Luxury or Lord of Blended Pleasure. The Planet is Moon and the sign is Cancer. The Angels of the Decan are: Hayayel and Mevamayah Practice calling these names, you may be surprised at the vibratory change.
The 4 of Cups is Chesed in Briah, here Chesed is influencing the unconscious mental realm. The alternate flow of the Moon is mitigated in Cancer, as the Moon naturally rules in this sign. Changing cycles are still there, but passive, and slow.
When looking at the Crowley/Harris Card, we see the Upper Golden Solar cups overflowing but not the lower, implying that the Pleasure is real but with reservations. The caveat being; pleasure but not without some anxiety and discomfort. Here the Luxurious feeling of pleasure is short and indifference soon takes over and as the multiple stems of the one lotus show, the energy of luxury is divided amongst multiple flows, implying too many diverse issues involved to stay stable. The number 4* is considered a "dead end" number so ending is the only place to go and action must be taken soon as the energy of life hates stasis and will move, even if slowly.
*Four is a number with a strong and stable vibration. Numerologists recognize the four as the number of foundations, materiality, physicality, practicality, and prosperity. The number four represents buildings, doorways, and the earth itself, standing as a symbol of things that are solid and not prone to change easily.

Many people fear that luxury is overindulgence ; However, it is also as simple as having all that you need to live comfortably. In many countries it would be considered a luxury just to have clean hot and cold running water. Therefore, luxury is relative as even one man's garbage is another man's wealth. Since, Water is the Universal Element of this Card, and is the emotions and Unconscious mind, there is also a luxury of intuition, dreams and a introspective observation of one's emotional state of mind. However, one could think that they are happy with all the "stuff" they have accumulated, only to find out later that they aren't. Happiness isn't stuff, it is the luxury of Spirit-Mind-Body, all living in one house. That house being the most luxurious place on earth, the homo sapiens sapiens. Luxury, requires a certain intimacy, and only physical flesh can supply that intimacy that the Divine Creative seeks with its creations. Luxury begins in the Soul who has its own body; one that doesn't belong to a culture, institution, religion, or any other Patriarch indoctrination.
tarot of the ages- four of cups
The Tarot of The Ages- Four of Cups, depicts a scene of debauchery as it's explanation of luxury. Here it depicts one main character of Mayan decent becoming a prey of excess, lounging in decadence and over indulgence. Here the small people represent tormenting thoughts as obsession is this one's only companion in life. Here, it seems that luxury is considered a foley of the biblical prodigal son. Luxury for its own sake, is indeed an obsession because it is linked to greed. Therefore, this card implies that it is time to go inward and find the "hole" you are trying to fill with things. For this inner "emptiness" is of a fear based emotion and must be conquered if one is to really live a full life. A full life is an impeccable one; Where one is secure in their presence and can feel the luxuriant of Knowledge that comes from the Greater Self. It also may be time to share the wealth, as real prosperity is wealth shared.
