Thoth-4 of Swords-Truce
Chesed the 4th Sephiroth-Mercy- is the Universal Architect, thus the 4's suggest perfection, realization, completion and fixing a matter to a rock solid stability.
In the 4 of Swords, this stability is a form of Truce, where equal tension, makes a stability of mental powers. Here the benevolent powers of Jupiter are merged with the house of Libra. Jupiter influences one to be generous and hopeful, while the Libra is the one responsible with an individuals sense of justice and equality. However, the crossed swords are shown with a background of chaos.
The 4 of Swords represents Chesed in Yetzirah, influencing the inner- astral world of the unconscious.
As you may know, mental creation happens in the fluid light of the Astral/Unconscious World before the manifestation is solidified in the Material World. Now you may not be able to clearly see that you are not a body....You really are a Yod -flame (hand of Energy) in the Universal Collective Unconscious, so your Real body, is the Tree of Life....the human body is the incarnation of an Avatar for sensual purposes, of making your "dreams of Self" lucid and resides with in the solar corona (aura) of the Invisible you/Soul. That Invisible you is as Jupiter, and in this card, Jupiter is in Libra. The normally benevolent Jupiter is inimical towards Venus, which in turn is neutral towards it. Despite this inimical relationship, this position of Jupiter turns out positive, as both the planets are benefic in nature. Thus the normal destructive Swords, are put to rest in the munificent, benevolent and loving nature of Jupiter, while Libra is the one responsible with her sense of justice and equality.
The Thoth Card shows the Rose of Mother Goddess, is restored and Consciousness is settled, and a rest from strife is implied by the 4 of Swords.
Here Jupiter claims authority in the intellectual world. Arguing for convention, the tension between Jupiter and Libra restores mental balance after the chaos of arbitrary thought.
In the 4 of Swords card, the hilts of the Swords, are formed into the corners of the St, Andrew's Cross, suggesting the rigidity and fixation implied in the 4. The Rose of 49 petals, in which the Swords are sheathed, suggesting social harmony; However, with the Scottish battle flag of St. Andrew's cross, it suggests social harmony achieved only after battle, where both combatants are temporarily laying down the sword. Therefore, there is a suggestion of compromise. As does Crowley, I find this compromise to be a less than positive factor. For it is an act of an indolent mind, that would rather be pusillanimous and compromise for a moment of social peace rather than work out the thought or ideals through the promised struggle. However, it may seem justified to keep the peace; but peace at any cost, is not always preferable, as nothing is solved and old antagonisms can't stay buried long.
Santa Muerte- 4 of Swords
The advice of the Dead:
Remain calm and wait, and use this moment of stasis to study and think deeply about all that you need for the near future.
The Santa Muerte -4 of Swords, depicts the Santa Muerte figure nailing closed a coffin. This image implies a time out, to solitude, isolation, a barrier, a fence and/or a hermetic sealed enclosure that surrounds us mentally, that insure that we will not reach our goals or realize our ideals. 4 is a number of stability, of solidity and in the swords, it becomes an enclosure of security, where only security is important. This produces a prison cell for one's mind. One is unable to act past their fear of loss. Only by exploiting this period as a moment of rest, and introspection, so that one can regroup there Spirit-Mind and Body into a powerful force once again, one can break out of this stasis and win the day.
When the four of Swords , is thrown during a reading:
- There is mental understanding of a matter, or a relationship coming to full resolution on four levels of mental awareness:
- The Rational.
- The Emotional of the Unconscious.
- The Spiritual, and the Subconscious of the Physical.
- Implications of problems that should not be ignored; listen to the inner self and answers will be restored.
- A holding pattern after mastering a difficult mental situation.
- Retreat or withdrawal necessary to heal or hide, by creating a protected mental space. Here insight can be generated by temporary seclusion.
- A moment of logic and discriminating intelligence of integrity and planning.
If ill defined by surrounding cards:
- A moment of illness in order to force recuperation (forced retreat).
- intellect is relinquishing control back to the body so that a time out of from problems so that inner solutions are achieved as the outer body has only one focus of getting better.
