Thoth- 5 of Swords-Defeat
The 5 of Swords-Defeat occupies the position of Geburah, the 5th Sephiroth on the Tree of Life named SEVERITY.
One may ask, why is there a need for such a nasty- Intelligent-judgmental- corrective force in our individual Psyche, if we are the Golden- Child of The Divine Creative? This Mental -Severity is easily explained as the necessary mechanism to begin cutting away the unworthy bits, so that you are the original you; the Original Child that she envisioned. What many fail to understand, is that all the definitions given you, by your society, belief systems and cultures are not you, because YOU HAVE TO BE KNOWN INTO EXISTENCE BY YOUR DIVINE CREATIVE! In other words, you have been already made to be you, and the definitions (which are different for most every ruler) of man-kind cannot truly redefine you, only with threat when you are most vulnerable (1-7yrs old) can you even believe "words to be you".
As it is said, truth is made manifest and/or information becomes form. Hence, you never came seeking your truth, nor to find out who you are, the Soul already Knows that whom you are, it needs to reflect upon you to Know itself! By putting knowledge into information/ form, the Divine Creative made you manifest as Self-Knowledge! You are already Defined into being, not a being who seeks definition; for this planet and this cosmos, are not a court room; rather they are a experimental and creative place of Self-Awareness! You are an image of Life who proves definition by making it manifest! You give definition to things, so that they may be cataloged and used as communication. Ideas, are what you build into things, therefore thoughts are definitions used to define the idea.
The difference between knowledge and information is obfuscated in our modern "information society" . People often use the terms interchangeably, without knowing the fact that there are slight and subtle differences between information and knowledge. The Invisible Sephiroth of Daath, is invisible for it is the sphere of I Am (The Divine Creative) and its experience in the Universe without form and ruled by Saturn (Binah as Priestess). However, knowledge and information are important concepts of knowledge management system, (a Universe, Nature etc.) wherein the former means processed data about someone or something, while the latter refers to useful information gained through learning and experience. Hence, Daath is the sphere of "experience" of the Supernal -I AM Triangle (Kether-Chokmah-Binah) where Self-Knowledge is made into information/data.
Geburah, the 5th Sphere of experience, helps us remember who we really are, and not what we pretend or believe ourselves to be. It produces information, on what is Self , for it is ruled by Saturn/Time as part of the Trinity Goddess, but the 5's are also influenced by Mars a fertile and marshal force; time is therefore, "measurement" (Saturn) which is processed data and this measurement is enforced by Mars.
The 5 of Swords, is known as Defeat, or Lord of Defeat. Being that Venus is in Aquarius here, the normal disruption of Geburah's Saturn- strength, is not the cause of disaster! This is because weakness is the cause of the 5 of Swords disaster! A weakness brought on by pacifism, and enfeebling sentiment; maybe even treachery. A treachery of the Patriarchy and its control of definition and/or propaganda. To support the avarice of the top 1% of the Rulers pyramid, one needs many slaves and through redefining all that is created from the One energy, the belief in separation, divisionism, and hierarchy is a must. Once we have separation and divisionism as a belief system, than it is easy to create "enemies" in a fear-rich environment. The Patriarchy then tells you that you need it to protect you against the "enemies" that it generates through misinformation and/propaganda. One needs to believe that there is something "wrong with themselves" to fear that something is wrong in others. By believing doing wrong to them is therefore, right for ourselves, becomes an easy shift into a common delusion. If you haven't noticed, every President has to have an "War on".... a War on drugs, a War on poverty, a War on war: a war on.....keeps the Patriarchy in power.
The hilts of the 5 swords of Thoth, form the sinister image of the inverted pentagram; where the body's subconscious fears have conquered the will by the treachery of sensation. Feeling fearful, is often more sensual than feeling willful, since the ever present doubt brought into belief by indoctrination, keeps their individual will from collecting into force. The reversed pentagram is the symbol for "black magic". What is easily overlooked is that true black magic is "fear" based. Hence, what is symbolized here is a precarious conflict, altercations, unfair blows, vileness, a curse, and aggressive phase of destructive thinking, or inexplicable things that the subconscious does not want to decipher and that directly touch our primitive fears, that reside in this "survival-mind" of earthly evolution. All over stimulated through propaganda by "those who wish to rule the many".
Notice: that none of the hilts are the same, implying many different weak thoughts assaulting the blue Rose of Wisdom, that was at once whole in the 4, is now all cut to pieces in the 5. Wisdom is scattered to the winds of emotional defeat and blood of self-torture and the poison of shame drips from the thoughts/swords; All of which are a delusion of self-weakness created by propaganda. Here the fears of childhood have become all consuming. Defeat can also lead into a deeper sense of knowledge, for if we acknowledge defeat because of improper data, we can then utilize new data to succeed!
The 5 of Swords also represents in astrology, Geburah in Yetzirah, a severe Mars influence, is now in the Astral World. Yet, Mars is the consort of Venus in mythology, and mythology is not a story telling a lie, but rather a story relating a truth, so there is also a vulnerability of capitulation here. The Blue Rose of Venus (Wisdom), which is also the Rose of the Cross, can't take the buffeting of the Martian assault. Along with the 9 and 10 of Swords, the 5 is one of the most destructive events in the deck. Here, loss, defeat, failure where contest is decided and finished against the person is presented.

The Santa Muerte- 5 of Swords, indicates a great conflicting the 2 Santa Muerte figures, creating a sense of humiliation and defeat. Fight of flight, seem to be the only ways to deal with this situation.
