It may seem such a large step into the negative after the 6 of Cups-Pleasure. However, both are astrologically Scorpio, but instead of Scorpio exalted in the Sun as in the 6, the 7 of Cups places Scorpio with the planet Venus and Venus is ill dignified in the sign. Here, pleasure becomes the false pleasure of intoxication with the swamp of past emotions. For emotions are compared to water, for reasons of wavelike flow and stagnation if not released to the purer air of new thought.

Venus is the planet of Copper, she is all “external splendor and internal corruption", such superficiality in a martial and watery sign as Scorpio destroys any altruistic tenancies, turning the amiability of Venus into a grosser sensuality. Therefore, in the 7 of Cups, the influence of Venus is violent, and becomes intense physical intoxication on passion which unless gratified, will become hatred. This passion is so unbalanced that even when such intense physical passion is reciprocated, it will be stormy to the extreme. It may also end in tragedies and treacheries.

Such extreme violence/turbulence of feelings, may also end in poor health, since no matter the physical strength of the person, the emotional strength of greedy desires is even stronger and may eventually lead to dangerous excess. Therefore, Indolence is an appropriate title for the 7 of Cups as it is a type of personal Bacchanal* ; An intoxicated revelry in emotions.

The Bacchanalia were Roman festivals of Bacchus, the Greco-Roman god of wine, freedom, intoxication and ecstasy. They were based on the Greek Dionysia and the Dionysian mysteries, and probably arrived in Rome c. 200 BC via the Greek colonies in southern Italy, and from Etruria, Rome's northern neighbor. Tenney Frank suggested that the Dionysian worship may have been introduced to Rome by prisoners taken by the Romans when the former Greek city of Tarentum in southern Italy was captured from the Carthaginians in 209 BC.^[4] Like all mystery cults, the Bacchanalia were held in strict privacy, and initiates were bound to secrecy; what little is known of the cult and its rites derives from Greek and Roman literature, plays, statuary and paintings.^[5] However, unlike other mystery cults, the Bacchanalia had two different types of religious functions. The number 7 refers to Netzach (Victory) and is the number of the Goddess,.Venus is the Goddess of Love, redoubling the influence of the number 7. As most of us know by experience, when loving desire goes into physical overload, excessive passion becomes dangerous excess, from which some never recover and spend the rest of their life seeking extreme pleasure in many questionable ways.

In the Human case, Passion must belong to the Higher States of Conscious rather than physical bodies as is explained by the very word Human; the word Human Means God-Mind and the High Vibration Desires of God/Goddess (The Divine Creative) to reunite as an androgyny, burn away the lowly desires of the animal body/DNA. This momentary expansion of mundane senses beyond the body is temporary unless the flesh is trained in the tempering heat of Tantric, or Gnostic rituals. The Passion that Created a Universe of Self, is too much intensity for the self-absorbed brain, whose universe is all about "my feelings"! Hence, the Love of Self, becomes profaned as an external expression rather than the internal union of the Divine Feminine and Masculine nature of the One.

To carry forththis idea of excess, the Thoth 7 of Cups displays poisoned lotuses that have become tiger lilies. The cups are iridescent, (dissolving in the indolence), and are arranged into two descending triangles, interlaced with the larger lower cup-showing a greater lower influence on the emotions, as it floats in a slime covered morass of putrefaction.

The Thoth 7 of Cups Card is almost an "evil reverse" image of the 6 in the reflective world of matter; Zealotry, fanaticism are such reversals of passion.

The 7 of Cups, is a wholesome reminder of the fatal ease with which a Sacrament, such as the "Flesh", may be profaned and prostituted simply by losing one’s balance with Kether (Higher Mind), and straying ever so slightly from the middle pillar (Balance of Masculine and Feminine), thereby making the holiest mysteries of Nature become the obscene and shameful secrets of a guilt ridden consciousness. Netzach, is that green Sephiroth on the lower illustrated Tree of Life.

Green is the color attributed to Venus, the planet of Netzach. Love, feelings and instinct, the Group Mind, Nature, and the Arts, all radiate from this Sephiroth. The Symbols for Netzach are:

Netzach is the first Sephiroth of the astral triangle and is the first energy/elemental intelligence to make up the personality of the individual.

You may remember that I stated that the Personality is made up of the Four Alchemical Elements, each of which are represented by the lower Sephira, in the familiar sequence of Fire, Water, Air and Earth. Netzach is Fire, Hod is Water, Yesod is Air and Malkuth is Earth. Therefore, they are displayed as the lower sexual organ regions of the Adam Khadmon body. This also implies that without the Higher Beauty of the Soul-Tiphareth the 6th Sephiroth, sexual pleasure becomes profaned as animal rutting. The cleverness of Patriarchal indoctrination, concentrates on this "lower region" disconnecting the sexual energy that is emotion, from the Soul, and limiting it to "lower desires" of debauch. This is done by profaning sexual emotion. Sexual energy-in-motion, is the energy of creation and that belongs to Spirit. Hence, you have created with your own sexual energy, a profaned image of your spiritual self and therefore, don't know yourself at all!

Netzach is the lower form of the fiery Yod of Chokmah (sexual energy) that is r effected from Geburah through Tiphareth. This is the formula for Yod Heh Vau Heh (Tetragramaton-secret name of god), Malkuth being the final Heh, because of the "fall" which is really a condensing or "downsizing" of self from androgyny to individual sexes of a species. This in not because we were bad boys and girls in paradise, but rather because organic material mimics eternity as constantly being transformed. It is the necessity of diversity, that accomplishes this constant transformation. Therefore, 0=2, and/or, the One made itself 2. He, She , it made them as diverse personalities of Self, just as stated in genesis.

In Netzach, normal waking consciousness of the student, must deal with the Astral Triangle of Netzack, Hod and Yesod and the component parts of the sexual ego of personality, after all, we are not of the personality/ego, it is created by the policies and identity rule of the Patriarchy/Military Industrial Empire and therefore seeks to deceive. Originally, personalities are automatic-software programs that are created to operate Hardware/Wetware, and are supplanted in the brain to manipulate the physical body properly in the name of I AM. However, if your personality was made for you out of the illusions, delusions, fears and ambitions of an outside "Authority", then you haven't a clue who's software is operating the body, as you don't know the code and language that went into making the software your body is operating from! Yet again the axiom of Qaballah: "Above all things, know thyself!" rings true! The ego isn't you, it is "software" of a culture or race whose identity is controlled by rulers. The definition of a ruler is,"One who controls definition". I Am the Psyche/Soul that controls my own definitions. For definitions become manifestations and the physical body is the manifested Will of Spirit-Mind, not some patriarch.

The most important part of initiation is to observe the layers of lies, that your ego/ personality is constructed from, removing layer after layer of false you, until the Real I AM is a bright Sun of Self. Patriarchal indoctrination forms the "garbage persona", the profaned person, and this "Garbage in" is makes the "Garbage out" the becomes dysfunctional action of "seeking yourself" in the eyes of your peers, or of a supposed authority. The Heavenly Human is called-The Sun/Son of the Divine Creative union of Isis and Osiris, in Egyptian Tarot. You are already Divinely approved----you exist, and your Software for operating the Wetware of the brain, was already created by the Higher Psyche, which many call "the Soul". This was rejected when young by the "pleasure/Pain" training of Indoctrination. The Patriarchal profane virus, that is the ego, must be exorcised before one can regain their Divine Sanity.

Often, Mystery schools use a set of Tattva exercises as a type of "controlled day dream" (guided meditations), intended to bring the student into direct contact with the subtle Elemental realms immediately underlying the material sphere of sensation. Often, I bring those Elemental realms of instinct into sensual manifestation for my students, all of which is necessary to prepare the student for more advance techniques of Willed emotional strength.

It should be understood, that the astral realm beginning with Netzach, is a fluid, non-solid mental realm where everything begins in illusion/dream. It is the place, where our Formative Consciousness can experiment with image, such as children role-playing, in order to comprehend in a later stage of growth; the actual manifestation of being "that". If done with controlled will, this is a boon to any creative endeavor on Earth; if taken as rote, all hell will break loose on earth!

The Astral is not a Master of your personality! Nor is anything that you contact in it! The Astral is the Malleable substance to create with, not be created by! In this realm of "fluid mind", all the instincts of the races and the cultural superstitions are floating around in image. They are formed and active according to the emotional power of thousands upon thousands of "Believers". Emotion, is Energy-in-Motion, and the most feared "nightmares" of a race and/or culture are permanently imprinted there. Most " Medium-Channels" just channel these astral persona's, and live in an illusion of devotional thought, not allowing them to see the "holy" delusions that create a most profaned ego. The internal pain of this profaning, is what most people try to escape in methods of debauchery. Intoxication, drugs, orgies of "sex-drugs and rock and roll". Trying, unsuccessfully, to "find themselves".

Let me explain what few wish you to know: A god is a dominate Consciousness on its Plane of Dominion. Every one of the 10 Sephiroth, is a demigod (small god).......you are composed of the United cooperation of these energy intelligences that are called "demigods", which contribute to the make up the One Self/ the Horus. And you're are even one better, because you have also composed a body of the " earthly demigod",; the Top Mammal Predator", ruler of its domain, the homo sapiens sapiens body! So, you, are a Great Group of Ten Mental aspects of the Divine Creative, each aspect a demigod, who should be working as One Group Soul of your individual Tree of Life... a one I AM Horus. The fact that you are not, is because you've been mentally separated from the reality of your divinity by profaning the spirit-mind- body! This was done by the manipulation of your imagination/observation, (auto-suggestion) by "The few who wish to rule the many", The Patriarchy. The astral domains of the sub-conscious are the beginning of formation, on earth and are stimulated into creating what is most emotionally applied. Which in the case of the homo sapiens sapiens body, is fear of death. And by giving you "nightmare" stories of how bad your natural body is , you forgot it is a "god" of its domain! If it was unclean, dirty, filthy and a profane manifestation of sin, why would Spirit/The Divine claim it as its own I AM Me and/or Image/Identity?

The 7 of Cups-Debauch, reminds us that we all must return consciously to the Astral and clean up our wetware! In other words, become lucid in the dream of indoctrinated ego, and correct the lies within our brain; the ego made by the ruler control of identity (propaganda)-the great deceiver, tempter and liar, must be exorcised from our brain. Your ego is the profaned self.

When we are dealing with Netzach, we are dealing with understanding a particularly difficult State of energy conscious. Netzach is where both the Macrocosm (Mind) and Microcosm (instinct) meet. Thus we are dealing with the understanding of the entire race patterns of human kind, and patterns of individual persona. But if that isn't enough, we must understand that this sexual dichotomy is in itself an illusion! Above all things, know yourself.

The Tarot of Druids-7 of Chalices, displays a less explicit form of debauch. Here there is wine, in the cup, sexual emotions, and music. Hence, a "sex-drugs-rock and roll " scene. Everyone in the picture is showing the "rosy"cheeks of excess imbibing of wine.

When the 7 of Cups or 7 of Chalices- is thrown:

• The querent is being cautioned about the apparent Victory of Denial.
• There is a suggestion of deceit, promises unfulfilled, illusion, and error.
• Slight success may be experienced, a minor victory so to speak, but not enough energy to retain it.
• The querent may be experiencing drunkenness, wrath, vanity, lust and promiscuity or even violence against women; a violence which is not limited to the male sex.
•  This card bespeaks of selfish dissipation. Deception in love and friendship. 
• Inspiration.
• Artistic success/excess.
• Desire to start over.

If ill defined by surrounding cards:

• Failure.
• Disappointment.
• Warning against illusionary false promises and hopes.
• Lapsing into the swamp of false pleasures. 
• Addiction.
