Water is the feminine- element of this card which astrologically assigned Mercury in the house of Cancer. Here, imagination is abundantly free. Therefore, this card represents the declaring of freedom, free expression of personal feelings. With Mercury in Cancer, there is a need to communicate in a careful and personal manner.

The Thoth 3 of Cups is also called the Lord of Abundance. Here Mercury is in Cancer, The Angels of the Decan Rachael and Yehomayah. The Love trinity of Eros, Philo, and Agape, are declared in this card. Also, the trinity goddess of Maid, Mother and Crone.

Cancer is a water sign and is under the command of the Moon. Thus, we have Cardinal Water, i.e. Unconsciousness and emotions. Therefore, the 3 of Cups has perfect affinity with Binah, who is "Will to Form".

The image of rushing water, swift and extravagant as it overflows the Pomegranate cups, represents the gifts of Mercury. The Water arises from a single cup which denotes the "dark calm Sea of Binah" a characteristic of the Universal Collective Unconscious from which all consciousness springs.
