The New Orleans Voodoo Tarot- 8 of Petro-Fire- Simbi La Flambeau, is under the influence of the Western Qabalistic 8 th Sephiroth- Hod-Splendor and here, mind and magic come together. What we call "our mind", is not the same as The Mind. Our mind is a trap, of self-absorbed survival thinking ideas and indoctrination. What we call self-consciousness, is usually what people call their mind. It is the mind of splendor, loves to fantasize, and decorate things in the image of the "small self" and/or "little ego". It is based on intellect, which is not The Mind of the One Universal Collective Unconscious/The Divine Creative. What and who we are is not contained in the intellectual boundaries of the human brain. When we call this intellect "our mind", we are reduced to what we think about and reduced to what we are trained to think.

Don't get me wrong, our intellect is not the instinctual mind of the animal, which is vaster in sense of things than our "self-absorbed" intellect. Animals have a sense of things vaster than their intellect, for they answer to the wild world run by Gaia, as her "self-images". Animals often flee an area before the earthquake hits, or the tsunami drowns, or the Volcano roars, while man has no link with the Wild World, and suffers the results. Even with our modern science, we are still unable to pinpoint these earthly events to the moment. The "Primitive Mind" of Earth belongs to all animals as an inheritance; an inheritance that we are told and raised to reject. Hence, we should incorporate the "Wild Mind" of Earth, with our "sense of self", as well as, the Solar Self, that is the Psyche/'Soul whose sense of the Universal is beyond our intellect. To think that we are "higher intellect" than the animal and that we have a mind of our own called "our mind", is to block the true intelligence of Adam Khadmon, and/or your whole Self. The Tantric knows this, and when I was studying Tantra we had to hunt for our food once a month, just to stay in contact with our "Primitive Self", for it is an important part of the Universal Collective Unconscious and/or The Mind. Tantra is a Sanskrit word that means to "Expand and Liberate" as Qabalah is a Aramaic Word meaning "to receive". To "receive knowledge and expand and liberate" our intellectual self, opens our intellect to the "magic mind". We've got the intellect to listen to The Mind, the Universal Collective of all that is mental, but only if we own our intellect and are not owned by it. I Am the intellect, I Am the Mind, I Am the Intuition, I AM the Imagination, simply are ways to acknowledge that is what you are, not what your owned by. I AM SPIRIT, the Fire/ Energy that all intellect is created from and with. I AM Spirit imagining that I am a homo sapiens sapiens. To imagine is to "image make" which in all accounts, is our inheritance from the Divine Creative. To take data and understand it, makes in-form-ation. Our understanding takes the form of ourselves. Now that is magic!

To the Voodooist, the individual's mind is described as the magic mirror, taking in and reflecting all in the manner of its own nature. Hence, it is the "self-conscious" and not the Whole Mind of the One, even though the One Mind does just that as well. For the Divine Creative built the Universe out of the manner of its own nature..."I Will Be". The "little ego" is a copy of the Greater Ego; a reflection of. Our "self-conscious" is reflected on the mirror of the Soul. This Magic Mirror of the Psyche, allows the self-consciousness of the magician to observe his or her self. Here the self-conscious first sees then interprets, the interpretation affects the seeing. This old knowledge is also shown in modern quantum physics, as it is known and proven that observation changes the thing observed. The magician, reflects on what is seen in the mirror of self-conscious and with the proper use of will, causes the image in the mirror to change. The change in the self-reflection, cause the voodooist to change. The image in the mirror acts as a witness, as it testifies to the nature of the change and can be identified by the Voodooist or the Magus. Will is Spirit, i.e. The Magus. I AM Will, it doesn't use me for, I am the will and the way, I am the wealth, I own the day. "The Day" is my image of the eternal Now.

Therefore, Hod, the 8th Sephiroth is an airy vessel. Will and the direction of love, must hold it in check, or the intellect and the thoughts entertained in it are apt to swirl and rush in any direction. Here, Simbi La Flambeau is fire in an airy vessel. Likened to an airy bellows that feeds the intensity of fire's heat, air brightens fire, as the fire feeds upon the air.   This loa burns with a splendorous intensity. With in this card's image, the self-conscious/intellect burns with a brilliance, a splendorous clarity, if self-directed, often blinds the seer.

Simbi La Flambeau is the Fire of the Willed intellect burning through layer upon layer of illusion. Here, the images reflected upon by the self-conscious struggle for otherworldly perfection. Emotions are this fiery energy in motion, where self-images are emoted to the outer world. The Simbi air finds power in transcending these emotions. Simbi harnesses these emotions as one would , harness fire in alchemy. It is controlled by the will of the alchemist, to fire his airy *vessel of "self" transformation.

What is in the earth composes the animaterial vessel, whether it be glass, metal, stone, or body. As there can be no light without darkness, so there can be no conjunction without separation.

The New Orleans Voodoo Tarot- 8 of Petro, depicts a dragon-like Simbi La Flambeau swimming in the fiery rush of emotions. A voodooist is shown, who is intent on plumbing these depths, riding this Simbi, while holding tightly to the snake as if in sexual union.

When thrown in divination the 8 of Petro implies:

• Short-lived perfection.
• An uncovering of hidden motives or aspects of the affair at hand.
• Secrecy with a tendency toward stubbornness. P

• Rapid thought or action.

The 8th Qabalistic Sephiroth, Hod, is called Splendor and all language relates to Hod. All 8's are attributed to Hod whose planet is Mercury, as the messenger of The Greater Self, Mercury is the patron of Names and vesicles.

8 of Wands, Swiftness, is often called, The Lord of Swiftness and is Mercury in Sagittarius. The Angels of the Decan are Nithahiah and Haayah. The Eight of Wands, is Hod in Aziluth, the influence of Splendor in the World of Pure Spirit. Depicted on the card, the wands have become electric arrows that are brain waves/photon energy, that have originated in the striving for freedom inherent to everything related to thinking/intellect; the urge for insight into the true course of things. The 8 of Wands-Swiftness, stands for overcoming the difficulties of the previous 7 of Wands-Valour-card. Here, the Fiery Will of Spirit, is turned into electrical rays that sustain or even constituting Matter by their frequencies of vibrating energy. Therefore, the 2 dimensional square , symbol for limitation, gives way to the 3 dimensional octahedron, symbol for the midpoint between the earthly square and/or cube, and the divine circle and/or sphere. The spiritualized fire radiates above all this, as a rainbow.

The placement of Mercury in Sagittarius, mitigates and diffuses into a rapid expansion the "silvery" energy of Mercury. Thus, the energy of Mercury in the Sign of the Archer, is shown as electric arrows, going in multiple directions, both above and below. This illustration expounds on the meaning of swiftness and rapidity. A lot of energy, going nowhere and everywhere all at once.

The fiery colors invoke the concept of Fire as the element of this card, and we know that fire is the Vital Life Force, Spirit and/or Sex energy. Sex energy is the Swift energy that is used to create and achieve imaginings, goals or living beings. This "sex energy" is shown in the Thoth Deck 8 of Wands, Swiftness, as electric arrows liken to the arrow of the Cherub, who shoots sexual energy into the hearts of lovers. Sexual energy, is emotional. It is energy-in-motion that seeks insight in the union of things.

Hence, these electric arrows of energy sustain and constitute the Material World representing the subtle energy of the Fiery Father, bringing down from Chokmah (wisdom), the message of the Original Will of "I Will be". We are Solar Selves, i.e. Souls. Photons are the constituting light of the Golden Psyche and/or Soul. The True you, is the energetic photons that are operating the body. The body is then your avatar, not you. It is but a mirror reflection in the crystalline light of the material world. A self-reflection that is under the control of the Original Will, if you know yourself. But if the world of mankind, is your authority, you reflect only the culture, and the indoctrination of "those few who rule the many" and not the true you.

The 8 of Wands illustrates the geometrical pattern of the restored Universe (constantly restored by this Electric Fire). The rainbow above the double pyramid of the 8 of Wands, depicts the division of pure light into seven color rays of the light spectrum that exhibit interplay and correlation of the electromagnetic spectrum and/or Spiritualized Fire. We are visualizing energy of high velocity; light speed as photons and/or electric energy because of the principles of Hod, (making concrete that which is subjective), the data carried by these photons of I AM, snapping between the brain neurons, creates intelligible geometrical form.

When the 8 of Wands-Swiftness is thrown during a reading, it implies:

• Haste, swift acceleration meaning that the querent's ideas will very soon be in Physical existence and/or easily expressed in words.
• This indicates a high energy period in which to initiate change, as in, a fast movement for spiritual growth.
• Time to put on Mercury's winged sandals, and move rapidly along the lightning Path towards Greater Self Awareness.
• A rapid descent of power to examine the self-identity, and thus expand its perspectives.
• An expedient creating of possibilities.
• Ideas, movement  and quick communication.
