tarot of the old path-king of cauldrons

The King of Cauldrons in the Tarot of the Old Path is the Knight of Cups in the Thoth Tarot. However, the Knight of Cups implies a meaning more Arcane than that of the King of Cauldrons.

The Tarot of the Old Path- King of Cauldrons represents a mature, authoritative man wearing a ermine collared cloak, suggesting dignity, and that is blue in color, supporting fish designs; all pertaining to water, which is this cards element.

His ermine lined gold crown, is designed in the shapes of cauldrons, and the large Cauldron he supports in his hands is filled with water, suggesting his generosity.

The Iris that stands behind the King, is "flower language" for power and elegance.

The primary meaning of this card is about a male of hazel eyes, and light brown hair who is both authoritative and responsible. An excellent counselor, who could be an expert in the arts, science, or law. A generous and manipulative personality.

If you have been following, by now you know Chokmah (Wisdom), the second Sephiroth, who is the "rule of the Kings" to be the Idea of Maleness. In Chokmah the Idea of the Law of Attraction has been determined, as Binah, the opposite of Chokmah who the Idea of the Feminine/Magnetism is. In fact, the Greek Word, I Dea, is an ancient Goddess name. The mystery of the Two's is the interaction of opposites that composes the Diversity of the Universe. The Kings or Thoth Knights are Chokmah interacting in various elements.

thoth-knight of cups

Often called the Lord of the Waves and of the Waters, King of the Hosts of the Sea, King of the Undines and Nymphs. No matter which accolade one uses, his zodiacal attributes are the last Decan of Aquarius and the first two Decans of Pisces.

Since he is Chokmah, he is Specific Fire in the World of Primal Water. If we remember that Water represents the unconscious and emotional consciousness, it is easily seen that the Knight of Cups is a personification of the Force which motivates the currents of the unconscious in a manner similar to the Sun's motivational force over the currents of the Ocean. That is the reasoning behind Crowley's insistence on calling the King's of traditional tarot, Knights. For Knights, are Battle Kings, who are active and motivated. Not some Royal Title, sitting on his royally pampered promontory, demanding that others act for him.

The Thoth Knight's Cup has a crab issuing forth, which is a symbol of the sign of Cancer. Cancer is cardinal water that is ruled by the Moon that we know to direct the tides. The Crab also relates to Stella Maris, the Star of the Sea known as Isis and later Mari the Great Mother or Binah in the Qabalah; She is known as the Divine Lady of a thousand names.

The Phoenix or stylized Peacock head gear is a ancient symbol for Wisdom, which on the Tree of Life is Chokmah.

The legend of the Phoenix is that of a bird that died in flames every five hundred years, and then rose from its own ashes. Interestingly, in the art of Martin Muir, the Phoenix is shown as female, with moths or butterflies arising from the flames. In the symbolism of mythology, butterflies or moths represented souls.

The Peacock, shown on the bottom right of the Thoth card, also represents the Brilliance that is found in Water.

The Thoth Tarot- Knight of Cups is a personification of Bran the blessed that became the Christianized Fisher King, the ancient lord of the Abyss and/or the Rich Fisher Bron; Later, Lancelot, and Galahad. Implying ancient power and strength that is reliably protective of the needy and of woman. Here, the calm surface hides a deep and irresistible force, as does the unconscious hide deep emotions
