The dramatic Knight of Wands, is called the King of Wands in most other decks. Crowley wanted dynamic motion and protection applied to his Kings so they are rendered as Armored Knights on Horses in the Thoth Tarot. The Court Cards are roughly descriptive of persons whose Sun or rising sign at their nativity, falls within the Zodiacal attribution of the card.

The Knight or King of Wands represents the fiery part of Fire---The Lightning flash--- and he rules from the 21st degree of Scorpio to the 20th degree of Sagittarius.
This is an active personality archetype that has been called the god Valraven by the Danes. Valraven was said to be the one that gave the secret of magic to mankind, much like the Greek god Prometheus gave fire to mankind. Valraven becomes Hel’s husband king and lord of the underworld. The myth supports the qualities of generosity, fierceness, impetuosity, pride, impulsiveness, and swiftness in what is most often unpredictable actions.
Hence in the Witches Tarot, King of Wands we see depicted a middle aged king with titan-colored hair, sitting on a golden throne with roaring lion arm rests. The lion represents the Sun, and in heraldry, represents royalty, courage and power.
He is wearing a magnificent cape of red and gold, fire colors. His opulent crown of gold, is studded with rubies. Rubies represent in crystal magic, a sharpening of Mind and intensification of awareness. Around his royal neck, drapes a livery collar, or a chain of office of solar gold and ruby inlay. In his right hand is a red ribboned, blooming Hawthorne Wand, that represents the Suite of Fire that is assigned to the Wands of Tarot.
Behind this enthusiastic king, is a yellow and red sky of a new sunrise, promising a new and bright day filled with opportunities. This is also seen in the smiling, blue eyed face of the King. He leans forward awaiting your communication with enthusiasm, generosity and energy. Hence, he rules with passion, authority, generosity, honesty, and integrity. This king seems to be on the edge of his throne, barely able to control his active passion. Therefore, he represents a man of action who does his best thinking while on his feet.
If ill defined, he is evil-minded, cruel, bigoted and brutal. This ill definition will be shown by the cards around him. Because he is "as a lightning flash”, if he fails in his first effort, he has no resource. Obviously, when needed, this Personality trait can be helpful when the goal is known, and the issue at hand is well thought out. This Thoth Knight of Wands Card represents a revolutionary personality, startling in its passion, and perilous in its charge as shown with the Dark Horse leaping. Lots of Sex Force, (represented by the flaming Ace of Wands in his hand) which is Kundalini in the lightning sense of masculine electric force. A real steady mind is needed to handle such explosive "Will to Force/Chokmah power and the only safe bet is that this force is well contained in the Magnetic Force of the Female--within or in a relationship with another individual. The Cooling forces of the "Water" (woman) aspect of magnetic female force are needed here for without this Female balance this personality is quick to anger which easily flashes into rages and violence.
