The 5 of Swords-Defeat occupies the position of Geburah, the 5th Sephiroth on the Tree of Life named SEVERITY. One may ask, why is there a need for such a nasty- Intelligent-judgmental- corrective force if we are the Golden Child of Divine Creative? The answer is that this Severity is easily explained as cutting away the unworthy bits, so that you are the original True You that the Soul conceived of as its self-image in the microcosm; the original child that the Divine She envisioned/Understood. What many fail to understand, is that all the definitions given you, by your society, belief systems, dogma and cultural rules are not you, because YOU HAVE TO BE KNOWN /UNDERSTOOD INTO EXISTENCE BY YOUR DIVINE CREATIVE! In other words, you have been already made to be the perfect you and no man or woman can create the True You.
` Yes, it is true, tired and wearied truth seeker, truth is made manifest; you never came seeking your truth, nor to find out who you are, the Soul already Knows that for you are the image of the I AM in the material world! By putting knowledge into form, the Divine Creative made you manifest as Its in-form-action! You are already Defined into being, not a being who seeks definition; for this planet and this cosmos, are not a courtroom, complete with judge and jury; rather they are a workplace of experience!
You are an image of the Divine Creative, who proves definition/knowledge by making it manifestas a personal experience; intimately experiencing information/knowledge is the only way to become Wise! You give definition to things, so that they may be cataloged and used as communication ing. Ideas that through cooperation, are what are built into things. Therefore thoughts are definitions used to define the idea and not wisdom or knowledge unless experienced sensually. .
The Mars Red Geburah, the 5th Sephiroth, helps us remember who we really are, by defeating the dogma and indoctrination of the Patriarchy, and/or what we pretend or believe ourselves to be. I Am , means existence, and all that exists is supposed to.
The 5 of Swords, is known as Defeat, or Lord of Defeat. Being that Venus is in Aquarius here, the normal disruptive force of Geburah's strength, is not the cause of disaster! This is because weakness of will is the cause of the 5 of Swords disaster! A weakness brought on by pacifism, and enfeebling sentiment; maybe even treachery. Such as the treachery of the Patriarchy's indoctrination which creates the mechanism of "divide and conquer" which divides the Soul (Theology) from the Mind (philosophy) and the Body (Sensuality) from both.
The hilts of the swords form the sinister image of the inverted pentagram; where the body fears have conquered the will by the treachery of sensation; fear filled feelings, are often reacted to intensely emotionally than feeling willful! Also the "Divide and conquer" mental programing - the ever present doubt brought into belief by indoctrination, keeps the will from collecting into force.

Notice: that none of the hilts are the same, implying many different weak thoughts assaulting the blue Rose of Wisdom, that was at once whole in the 4, is now all cut to pieces in the 5. Wisdom is scattered to the winds of emotional defeat and blood of self-torture and the poison of shame drips from the thoughts/swords.
The 5 of Swords is Geburah in Yetzirah, a severe Mars influence, is now in the mental formative World. Yet, Mars is the consort of Venus in mythology, and mythology is not a story telling a lie, but rather a story relating a truth, so there is also a vulnerability of capitulation here. The Blue Rose of Venus (Wisdom), which is also the Rose of the Cross, can't take the buffeting of the Martian assault. Along with the 9 and 10 of Swords, the 5 is one of the most destructive events in the deck. Here, loss, defeat, failure where contest is decided and finished against the person.

The Tarot Illuminati - 5 of Swords, is using the Traditional Tarot depiction of this card. Here a thief is running off with the swords he has stolen from opponents that have made themselves weak by arguing amongst themselves. He is clever, and finds honor to be a weakness that will get one killed. He'll use whatever means necessary to defeat his opponents. Theft being just one action used to defeat his antagonists as he seeks victory at any cost. Here the survival mind of the clever predatory animal has become the guiding mind, rather than the Will of Spirit. Another way of saying this, is that the heart is defeated by survival thinking. One thing to remember, oh clever one, is that no one survives life for Life is Death, and Death is Life; the organic world eats itself to stay flexible and alive. However, your Soul is eternal, a Sun of Energy-Psyche that builds self-image to experience knowledge, and if you want to experience One Life with many bodies, the personality must become a "messenger" of the Higher Mind. Hence, a Mercury-Magus persona, that is the messenger of all the Sephirotic beings on the Tree of Life. The clever animal mind, belongs only to the material world and is totally self absorbed, therefore any action, including cruelty, theft, robbery, or any other cruel act, is okay if it helps one defeat their fear of death. Forgetting that fear of death is a defeat in itself.
