New Orleans Voodoo Tarot- 5 of Congo-(Water)- Ogoun Ghalin’Dio
The New Orleans Voodoo Tarot- 5 of Congo-Water-Ogoun Bhalin’Dio, represents iron, steel and technology as healer. This Ogoun has force, that is unscatter and laser beam like in focus. Hence, it is tightly channeled. There are many masks worn by disease. First there is karmic disease, something in the genetics, which is often seen as given by Bon Dieu Bon (Almighty God), where nothing can be done to change it. There are also diseases natural to the planet, where technology in medicine has often has the cure. Then there are diseases that emanate from the invisible world as enchantments, curses, or invocation. Here, a mambo (Female spirit healer) or houngan (male spirit healer) can intercede with the spirits and call a spirit down to give advice in the case of this illness.
Nothing is a 100% sure, as the element of chance is always present. *Elegguá ( considered a child that carries the word-a gate guardian) can jumble a message for Legba often speak in riddles. Hence, advice can be misinterpreted. However, according to Voodoo philosophy, the illness of natural causes is where the healing of Ogoun Bhalin’Dio is paramount. This is where the technologies of the invisible world are used to treat the cause and symptoms of visible world diseases. To the Voodooist, most diseases are usually a combination of all types of disease, genetic, curse, and natural . The proportions of each in the combination decide the proportions of effective treatment. Hence, the aspect of this Voodoo Tarot Card, is that of a determined healer, shown with a hypodermic needle in his hand, as the needle has replaced the scalpel as the emblem of this modern Ogoun. Due to the sophistication of modern technologies in medicine, less invasive methods of healing have often replaced the cutting away of damaged or diseased parts. In the foreseeable future, this Ogoun maybe shown holding a surgical laser. Remembering that Ogoun, is of the nature of the 5th Sephiroth-Geburah, and War, this Ogoun's field of battle is the inflamed body of the patient. It is understood that even in spirit caused diseases, modern medicine technologies are often used to relieve the symptoms.
*Elegua (Elegguá) is one of the most popular and yet most misunderstood of the Orishas. He is well known for being extremely powerful and working very fast. Some view him as an evil trickster, and equate him with the Christian or Muslim concept of Satan, or the Jewish Samael, who is both good and evil.

When this 5 of Congo card is thrown in a divination, it implies:
- Trouble.
- Worry.
- Loss.
- Possible onset of disease.
- Recourse to or ability to act as a Healer.
Thoth- 5 of Cups- Disappointment.
Many people inappropriately term some tarot cards as "bad" and others as "good" which is the two-dimensional thinking of our culture. This is assuredly errant thought as the Tarot is about conscious energy and its movement as "your multidimensional life".
The 5's, which have often been termed as bad, are really the necessary disruption of the placidity of the 4's. Your inner self is telling the outer self it is time to move! This is also true for the 5 of cups. Emotional disappointment makes us fragile (the 5 glass cups), and vulnerable. Like the murky sea in the background we become depressed and then angry as the orange/red sky. We are now off balance (the askew star) and feeling uprooted (the lily pads with falling lotus blossoms). The transformational aspect of disappointment is shown by the universal sign of the butterfly (the roots of the lily pads in the shape of a butterfly).
There is trouble here as astrologically this card is attributed to Mars in Scorpio; Mars is the planet associated with vitality, assertiveness and dynamic activity and is natural to Scorpio. Scorpio is the sign of depth and here, it is in the sphere of Geburah whose attributes lie in Saturn; thus disappointment is felt deeply "to the core" here, for the focus of Mars is that of a laser and Saturn is a lead-like force. Therefore, this is not a trivial disappointment such as not getting the right color of car, but a real stinging disappointment that in the next 5 weeks or 5 months has been or will be experienced. There could also be 5 years of disappointment or disappointment that goes back to a period 5 years ago or even disappointment that has been experienced deeply when you were 5 years old and is still influencing your present emotional state. All of these meanings are determined by where the card lays in the reading. It's now time to transform your emotion/energy-in-motion into a free butterfly rather than a "worm" in a hard shell of disappointment. Stuff happens to the just and unjust alike and by releasing disappointment, we can then turn anger into a personal ambition to create more motion in our life! This card states, “Release the past expectations, for that is a dead place, fly forward into the sunny now!"
As I have previously stated, Geburah, the 5th Sephiroth on the Qabalistic Tree of Life, rules the four 5's, as strength and severity bringing a necessary corrective in our lives. Severity corrects by tearing away all that is useless thought, and pent up emotion; all that is outdated and unproductive.
In this Qabalistic World of Assiah most of us understand physics 101 and the first law of thermodynamics that states there is only one energy that we can't create, nor can we destroy it. We can however, transfer it and transform it. Transformation is a process of deconstructing and then reconstructing that which is envisioned, thus what seems to end is merely change.
Transmitting is done sexually (Mars and Scorpio) or in some form of intimacy and/or communication, where we are in communion with someone or something. Where as the mask of our Soul, we emote energy into physical motions. Such as the intimacy of healers using shamanistic rites , or the universal sexuality of electrons transferring charge or how Photons transmit our thoughts and wills to the brain, making us Photons, not brains. The flow of this vital life force is often called Spirit, or love, as such we could say that the intimacy of the negative pole as it joins with a positive pole of a magnet proves love. But being Spiritual/Photon beings, we know Love is more than energy flow, it is a communion of multiple attributes that are even more apparent when a Soul-MInd-Body equilibrium is present. To the enfleshed Spirit, Intimacy is not just physical touching, tasting, smelling, hearing or seeing, even though those are usually involved; Intimacy is where one Photon- Auric Field blends with another; female force united to a male force. Energy weaving into a new pattern for both parties. A multiplication of 7 dimensions weaving with another 7 dimensions, becoming 49. These 49 are really a numeric or gemantic 4+ 9= 13 and Key 13 is the Death Card, which means a "Spiritual Transformation" and is often call the Rose of the Rosy Cross, representing the Soul-flower in the center of the human form, ie.e. the unequal armed cross.
However wonderful energy in motion is, it also has an end or transformation. That would be the second law of Thermodynamics where"...all things proceed from order to disorder", so a Master Weaver of Self, would see the disorder in Self patterns, and deconstruct them and reconstruct a new order of Self which is an emotional reconstruction of Self-awareness. Here's where Geburah steps in to assist us, she makes us view the disorder, and as a corrective, we can now remove the old and build the new. As a master of creation, we must know emotion (energy-in-motion) as a willed action rather than a spontaneous reaction, that we can't control. Spirit is action, while the body is prone to reaction.
The 5 of cups is also known as Lord of loss in pleasure. The angels of the Decan are: Livoyah and Pehilyah. As the 5 of cups, Geburah is influencing the Creative World, Geburah in Briah. To emote is to "act out", and when we send energy-in-motion to act out our thoughts, we call it life-motion. Here, rather than intuition, for Mars is in Scorpio, emotions, take the forefront.
By now you may know that the Alchemical Element-Water is unconsciousness intuition; However a severe situation is sensually presented in the 5 of Cups. Mars is violent energy and in the water sign Scorpio, this has been known to cause an extremely emotional effect, but under the influence of Saturn, the emotional effects are negative. A Scorpio at war with itself, is an awesome force of destructive energy-in-motion, and one that is often unnecessary. When we launch our energy outward, in expectation of a certain goal, in this world of chaos, that goal, is often not achieved in the expected time or even at all. Disappointment ensues as the "unfulfilled casting" causes energy to bounce back to the caster as a negative. So expect nothing. Love the journey towards the creation of Self, nothing else matters. Above all things, know thyself !
When you know that you are the "I AM" in intimate presence with creation, you will appreciate the journey as a Dionysis, rather than one at war with time or the chaos of individual freedom of choice. Loving the goal, rather than the motion, i.e., the journey. If one only loves the goal, it means one loves the mask more than their own True Face. The Soul, is my face, the personality, is the Soul wearing a mask. This is not a bad thing, for a mask must be placed over Invisible Photons, to even hope to see the Self. Therefore, Life is a story we tell ourselves, why bother with a story of disappointment, when you are the appointed Divine Creative's I AM Me? Hell no, I am the bronc rider of this rodeo! I am the Soul, that yells "Yeehaw", ride that crazy bucking material of Malkuth! I tell myself a story of joy, celebration, and yes, a little mischief, after all, Dionysus, loves his parties and the ladies. However you look at this crazy material world, humor keeps the soul upright on the bucking bronc of material change.
In the 5 of Cups, the once full cups are empty, implying loss of that which is loved, Geburah is fiery of nature, influenced by Saturn who is the "eater of its own children" and the still waters of peace, are totally at odds with this Saturnal force, thus causing a disturbance and loss of pleasure. This card, if supported by the accompanying cards, can even mean death of a loved one. The inverted pentagram represents the triumph of matter over spirit and where disturbance arises in the middle of ease. Here, the bronc of matter, bucked off the Soul.
When the 5 of cups is thrown during a reading:
- The querent has been or will be experiencing emotional disappointment for 5 weeks or 5 months.
- Usually implications of relying too much on others for love, rather than loving themselves.
- Here, there is a certain crying over past events, an experience of grieving over what has been lost or unlearned.
- Emotional discord as one begins to adapt.
- This is a card of regret, loss and separation. The corrective of Geburah is being applied here, and it is the beginning of recovery where one see’s the need to learn something new.
- When this card is thrown you may want to release past patterns of disappointment either with the Scorpio people in your life and/or in the next 5 weeks or 5 months be no longer willing to hold onto past disappointments and will make a conscious decision to let them go.
If the 5 of Cups is ill defined by the accompanying cards, it implies:
- Desolation.
- Bitterness.
- Remaining in the crisis.
