New Orleans Voodoo Tarot- 5 of petro-(fire)-ogoun la flambeau
The Thoth 5 of Wands is named-STRIFE and its corresponding card in the New Orleans Voodoo Tarot is 5 of Petro-Fire-Ogoun La Flambeau. The 5's come under the jurisdiction of the 5th Sephiroth-Geburah-Severity. This "numbered circle" is the intelligence of strict judgment as is her counterpart-the 4th Sephiroth- Chesed-Mercy. Here the Old Testament, "An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth" seems to apply. Geburah, is the sphere of war, and she is like to show war like qualities, just as Ogoun La Flambeau is apt to do. It is in the sphere of Geburah, that the aspects and attributes of those who grow to become warriors and soldiers are matured.
Because of the modern world of push button wars, where one bomb can take out millions, and he who has the better technology wins, the warrior aspect of Geburah has in many ways, become outmoded. The Strong physic and determination of mind , no longer "carry the day" in modern computer driven war. Now one is a soldier, rather than a warrior. Not all, for there are a warrior few, such as special forces etc., but mostly just order following numbers, rather than individual Warrior Kings. Hence, the Warrior of a hundred years ago, is not the warrior of today, such is the case for Ogoun La Flambeau. The loa and orisha exist in a complex relationship with the world of man; when one changes so does the other. Therefore, Geburah is also the sphere of technology, in particular industrial tech of iron, and steel constructions are particularly appropriate. Therefore, in the imagery of Geburah and Ogoun there is also change; for it is easier to see Ogoun driving Giant construction machines than sitting at a computer punching keys. According to the Priests and Priestesses of Oyotunji, an initiating village in Orisha-Voodoo, the Ogouns are particularly important to the destiny of white people. As one African warrior was recently quoted as saying, " The Americans are masters of war". However, not to get too involved in this opinion, the 5's point to problems and obstacles.
Ogoun La Flambeau is fire of fire. One can feel this fire of fire where emotions burn at a feverish pitch. Hence, the characterisation of Ogoun La Flambeau as a desert like dry heat. Therefore, the forces represented by this card, if given full reign, will pull a community and all within it into a dry mortal combat from which none emerge.
The burning rage of Ogoun La Flambeau, moves him to take matters of life and death into his own hands. Therefore, allowing rage to decide who lives or dies. Thereby, usurping the position of the Guedeh (Voodoo demons)who will act to take a man or woman's life whose time has not come. It is know in Voodoo that if *Bon Dieu Bon has not declared the individual ready, Guedeh will not act.
*Bon Dieu is the universal power and primordial God. He created all the original deity's and is the epitome of universal power. He gave the deity's order in power in the world. His word is law, even for the deity's. Believers of Voodoo almost never contact Bon Dieu directly, it is the job of the Diety's to take care of the worries and concerns of believers.

According to legend, Ogoun freed Haiti, he fought in the homelands of Africa, he has defeated Hitler. He is also considered to be the power that drove the slavers from Haiti, creating the first black republic in the world. We of the Western Cultures, know of the Nordic Berserker, Ogoun is the spirit of the berserker. Therefore, if not directed, Ogoun's power could kill us all.
Depicted on the New Orleans Voodoo Tarot card, is a warrior returning from battle. This return is significant. This is not a fresh young soldier, full of patriotism and rush forward in to battle, but the warrior who has seen death's hand touch many. He knows the sounds of cloven flesh, and has felt his blade grind on the gristle of the bodies he was cleaving. He limps, with a war wound and is now exhausted, but his pace has not slackend because he sees the battle is still continuing. He has the honor of a warrior, tempered by the wisdom bought in combat. He knows that by continuing combat could cost him another leg, and arm, or even eventually his head, but forward he goes. Weariness shows on his face, and most likely his thoughts scramble for another way to "save" the world but in the intense heat of battle, there is no answer but "damn the torpedoes, full battle speed ahead". Ogoun will not have his answer, until mankind asks the same question, finding an alternative to war. War is something we've inherited from our Annunaki Forefathers and it is time we stopped be driven by our genes, and find the driving force of Life that is our Spirit.
The primary attribute of Ogoun La Flambeau, is rage. So when this card is thrown in a divination, it is implying:
- Pain, especially physical.
- An aching questioning of one's actions leading to despair.
- War.
- Strife, internal and external.
- Actions against life and death must lead to regret.
- Constructive use of a potentially destructive force.
Thoth-5 of wands-strife
Artfully Lady Frieda Harris Displaying her knowledge of the Tantric Arts in the composition of the 5 of Wands-Strife. Here is a scene of 3 wands of initiation, that could be called the Chakra Puja or Panchamakara, or the Choli Marg Tantric rituals. You can look these rituals up in the Book: THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF EROTIC WISDOM by the author, Rufus C. Camphausen.
The objective of Tantric and Taoist sexual practices is to harmonize, balance, exchange and utilize the life energies (Vital Fire) set free during erotic play and sexual union. The Sexual Self is Spirit---it is the Adorable Fire of Life. In the instance of the 5 of Wands, the male electric-Fire is being heavily invoked by the Female Magnetic Water. Achieving an Electromagnetic surge which causes a great deal of physical strife and re balancing, causing a great deal of bliss and a higher vibratory nature of the body’s vital energy which is known as the Adorable Fire. To the well-studied student of Qaballah, this is the Masters Wand that represents the Masters Body and/or "The Philosopher's Stone". This is the Adorable Fire of Tantric, Gnostic, and Magick ritual….often called the Strife filled Ecstasy, which is always invoked by the raging communion of male electric and female magnetic.
- To the Elements, the 5's bring serious problems of unbalance. The 5 of Wands-Strife, brings quarrel and strife in the Vital energy.
- The 5 of Cups, brings disappointment to relationships.
- The 5 of Swords, brings defeat to health and mind.
- The 5 of Disks, brings strangulation to income and business.
All seemingly very gloomy; However, the other cards in the divination will show how long the difficulty as well as, how serious the 5's are to be taken and/or what lesson is to be learned. Really, these nasty old 5's just announce that a difficulty exists and often the solution to the problem at hand is in the other cards of the Tarot reading.
THE 5 OF WANDS-STRIFE.
This Lord of Strife astrologically is Saturn in Leo, which is the influence of Geburah (The 5th Sephiroth) in the World of Pure Spirit; Atziluth of the Four Worlds.
Here the powerful heavy effects of Saturn, united with a Fire sign like Leo, brings quarreling and Strife in energy. In other words, volatility.
The Angels of the Decan are Vahaviah and Yelayel, necessary knowledge for those who wish to call on them. Wands are a continual outpouring of force, with Saturn influence, this flow of force is agitated and disturbed, not unlike water flow is disturbed by rocks, causing rapids. Or more likely, as volcanic magma is disturbed by the tons of rock it’s pushing through, causing a powerful release of explosive force. Thus, in the 5 of Wands, there is contest unresolved.
Crowley's Thoth Card, shows the nature of the energy rather than its disturbed nature displayed by the Golden Dawn or Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot Decks, or the Manara Erotic tarot deck.
Depicted on the Thoth 5 of Wands, are the Lotus wand of the Golden Dawn Adeptus Minor of Tiphareth, the Phoenix Wand of the Adeptus and the Major of Geburah, all crossing the central wand of the Major Adept. The fact that the Major Adept Wand is central is because its position implies this severity is directed by Geburah rather than happenstance. The Phoenix wand implies resurrection from the purgation of Fire, while the Lotus Wand is of the Mother, In the Manara deck, the male is in place of this Wand for the Manara deck doesn't bow to the influence of "Flesh-0-Phobia", that the Patriarchy has, by the process of indoctrination, placed as software into the brain of the "Divide and Conquer" masses. So rather than displaying males with swollen and exposed genitalia, wands are use to depict the way the initiate is initiating the "Will to Force" of the masculine fire. We are all "I AM Spirit-Mind-Body. Not, "I have a spirit, mind and body". For to say "I have" is to separate one's self from them.
Many people find Geburah a difficult Intelligence to understand because she is a volcanic as Pelé (Hawaiian Volcano Goddess), all irrational disturbance, yet these disasters are derived from the benign and gentle influence of the Feminine that is Great Mother Binah. To me, this just shows Spirits "tough love" for its incarnations. Spirit knows you are the best built God Image yet, and have the internal strength necessary to handle anything this Universe can throw at you and therefore, coming up with answers as yet undiscovered. Yet, because we often believe the definitions of those who "rule definition", we see ourselves as a weakness, flesh, trying to become infinitely strong as Spirit; this misconception is often corrected by strife. I am the Space that rules my Time. Time as form is not weakness, it is courageous action on the Soul's part, to face severity in order to be intimate with creation. We are taught to believe that mortality is a weakness, rather than the only way to experience the courageousness of our Souls to learn discernment through sensation. Immortals don't have need of courage.......they don't die. We are Photonic Energy, Spirit- and have no death for we never lived. We make alive, but are not alive. Intimacy with Knowledge can only come from the Power of Limitation. Simply stated, the Soul, the Son of Spirit, also doesn't have the sensuality which is needed to produce discrimination and/or discerning thought. Thus, Strife is a loving corrective not a punishment.
Sensuality requires a "beginning and an end", to exist. The very fact that Soul of you is seeking sensuality by building an incarnate persona, requires severity (Friction) just to make it so and a fearlessness to make it happen! For example, a certain amount of friction is required to form energy into creations. Without the severity of friction/magnetic force and electric force, form could not become form! Just so, without the friction of severity in one’s life, accomplishment, progress and evolution would not happen! We Souls knowingly build an incarnation, knowing it can be a "crapshoot" and the soul isn't naive for it is certain severity will be applied! Hence, the 5 of Wand's is also called the "master's journey" card.
